Quick Draw Zephyr Sawyer Stand Up Paddle This is an ideal paddle for stand up paddle boarders who plan to use their SUP primarily for flat water paddling, yet who plan to do long distance treks on a frequent basis. It a great SUP paddle for the exercise motivated crowd! The Zephyr blade is a thin, ultra-light blade that is also extremely durable. It’s less powerful than that larger Ellipse blade, but that also means it’s friendly to a higher cadence paddler which is more typical of efficient distance paddling. The “on the fly” adjustable SUP paddle shaft means a single SUP paddle can be used as a perfect length paddle by the whole family (or guests), and it also sizes down for easier storage or transportation in the car. Zephyr Stand Up Paddle Blade The Zephyr is a thin, ultra-light stand up paddle blade with a semi-teardrop shape. Before the advent of stand up paddle boarding, the Zephyr blade proved itself as a favorite among distance racers such as canoe marathoners. Sawyer instantly recognized that this blade would be well received by the distance SUP paddler market. While it features a slightly narrower and longer SUP paddle blade than the Sawyer Ellipse, the Zephyr still delivers plenty of power while still remaining efficient for a rapid stroke cadence. Blade dimensions: 18” length by 8.75” width Quickdraw SUP Paddle Shaft The basis (and distinguishing innovative feature) of the Quickdraw shaft is that it has an easily adjustable telescoping carbon fiber shaft. There are other adjustable carbon fiber SUP paddles on the market, but most all of them use the little metallic buttons on an inner shaft that pop thru a series of holes in the outer shaft. The problem with these is that they rust with use, especially with salt water use when not flushed afterwards every time. Like Sawyer’s stand up paddles in general, Sawyer’s Quickdraw adjustable SUP paddle shaft solution is far more elegant and built for the long haul. The locking mechanism is made of a plastic clamp-like feature (which doesn’t rust, of course) that tightens and loosens a fitting between the inner and outer carbon fiber shafts. It’s quick to release and minimize the paddle length for storage or for a smaller paddler. |
